Box-type substations (also known as "box transformers") are generally composed of high-voltage compartments, transformer compartments, and low-voltage compartments. Box-type substations are a relatively simple type of power distribution equipment, and the choice of transformer capacity can be handled according to general principles, with a capacity generally not exceeding 1250kVA.

Applications

The first application is primarily in urban residential areas and streets during peak periods of high electricity demand. When the voltage needs to be increased, box-type substations can be used.
The second application is mainly for temporary power supply, such as on construction sites where existing buildings require electrical equipment upgrades. Box-type substations are also commonly used for outdoor operations, such as on construction sites, docks, airports, and other locations.

General Requirements

For simple lighting and public distribution, high-voltage metering is not required in the high-voltage connection scheme of the box-type substation, and only low-voltage metering or no metering is needed, and no compensation is required. The feeder circuit is 4-6 circuits, controlled and protected by plastic circuit breakers.
For power lighting and public distribution, the number of outgoing circuits from the box-type substation is increased to 8-12 circuits, and reactive power compensation is required.
